Ideas for Digipack

Both of us have designed some digipaks so we can compare our ideas and develop from them before we start actually making them. This will allow us to easily plan out our ideas and see what could work and what doesn't work well.

Here in this digipak we have considered a lot of the scenes we are planning to incorporate in our music video, for example the road they will be on whilst walking / once they meet. However the road is not a huge part of the video and only appears in a couple of shots near the end so it might not be the best to use pictures from this location in so many sections of the digipak to represent the music video. This is because we need to show a clear link between the music video and our other products, so we will want to use shots that are quite often shown in the music video. We will definitely consider the shot of the two together as it shows who is in the music video. The photo album is also symbolic as it is used in the music video when the male is flicking through memories, and this could make the audience want to watch it and see what the photo album means and defines in the music video.

Here we have another digipak with the use of the road again and the microphones with a flashback. Again the road might not be a good idea to use as the front cover but the microphone scene or flashback shot might be. This is because the flashback reflects back on their life together as a couple making them happy, which could make the audience want to watch it as it is positive. The microphones are also a good idea as this scene pops up multiple times in the music video showing their performance side to the song, and this could be a good representation of the piece as it shows the couple lip syncing to the song showing their passion.

On the front cover we have the couple back to back. We are not sure about considering this idea because this shot is not we are planning to use in the music video, but is a good idea and it has nice representation of broken love. We like the polaroid picture idea as this shows the memories of the couple on the back of the album showing sections of the music video when they were happy and together. This could help attract the audience more as they will see the story and it will help them to understand it. The shots of the two on the back walking to each other is also a shot to consider, as this had a lot of meaning in the music video towards them coming to meet each other.

This is the second digipak that I created. The front cover of this digipak is also good as it shows the couple walking away from each other going separate paths whilst looking back at what they had so will definitely consider incorporating this idea for the symbolism and meaning behind it. The microphone shots are more irrelevant as they can be put on any digipak with the artist singing and have no meaning behind it but we could still include it for representing performance purposes rather than fully narrative. The idea of the male with a guitar is one we could use because this is representing him expressing his feelings whilst also adding to the performance aspect. I added some lyrics on the middle bottom picture which are 'I know you didn't mean it though' which I thought would be  good idea because it is the most important quotes from the song and is giving the audience more detail about the song, allowing it to reflect on the visuals we created.

The first two digipaks were created by Alex and the second two designs were created by April. We both decided that we liked the idea of a shot of the microphones in one of the pictures as it represents some performance. So both us came up with the decision that we would implement a shot like that. April came up with the idea of having the song title in the spine of the digipak, and then Alex thought it would be great to add the artists name in the other spines, this way we elaborated on a small idea from April's initial thoughts. April wanted to have the lyrics 'I Know You Didn't Mean It Though' added over one of the pictures, however we decided not to incorporate this idea as we didn't want other lyrics added on other squares which would make this look out of place just having one. We both agreed on using the shots of the moment when they meet and bump into each other as this scene has quite a  dramatic and cinematic effect and the shots are also quite aesthetically please due to the lighting from the sunset. This will help attract our audience. We then wanted a shot of each actor from our music video to have one square each. Finally, from April's digipak idea of having Polaroid pictures we decided that we would implement some sort of photo album or picture gallery on the digipak so it relates to the music video.

Overall by doing this planning for our digipak this will help us when creating it because we have incorporated and compared ideas from the both us, and forming them together and allowing us to create one with the best ideas from both rough plans. We have now visualised and developed our ideas so we can now start gathering the shots and making our first draft for our digipak.
